River Lake has been part of a team assisting Manawa Energy to understand the effects of the Wheao Hydro Electric Power Scheme on the Wheao River, Flaxy Creek and the Rangitaiki River.

River Lake and Rescue 3 walked the Flaxy Creek downstream of the dam to document residual stream flow and aquatic habitat. A cluster of springs feeds this impressive waterfall that made an exciting decent.
